Lady of Loretto Church Museum
Located in Sauk County, Wisconsin on County Hwy
C between Denzer and Leland in Honey Creek Township, Sauk County,
Wisconsin. This building is also listed on the National Register
of Historic Places
.
The present church building, photo at the right, is the second home of the Our Lady of Loretto congregation. The first building was destroyed by fire and replaced by the present limestone building. The congregation was established in 1854 by Father Inama. In 1960 the church was closed. It was sold to Robert Jaedike in 1973 for $1500. In 1975 Mr. Jaedike donated the building and a small plot of land to the Sauk Prairie Area Historical Society. The church cemetery is located across the road from the church and is administered by a cemetery association separate from the former congregation and the Historical Society.
In 1993 a project was started to restore the church. This project was completed in 1998. The photo below is the restored interior of the church.

As can be seen from this interior photo, the sanctuary is still a sanctuary and is available for worship services and weddings. The building is maintained in its original configuration which means there is no electricity or other utilities.
The museum is open to visitors during the summer on Sunday afternoons 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM from Memorial Day weekend through the weekend before Labor Day. On Saturday of Labor Day weekend we close all three museums and setup a one day display at the Wisconsin State Cow Chip Throw at Marion Park in Prairie du Sac.
To make arrangements to use the museum for a wedding or other Worship Service contact Lola Huber at S7829 Huber Rd., North Freedom, WI 53951.
